Her acting experience spans stage and screen, with credits including the short film Relationship Status (R.O.L.A Productions), Maktub Theatre Company’s UBUNTU, and live performances at the Tate Modern’s Natalie Bell Building and Blankspace Tooting. In 2024, she performed the role of Sandra Laing, an Afrikaans Black woman born to white parents, at the Pleasance Theatre. This performance explored themes of racial identity, genetics, and the social construct of race.
As a writer, her work has been published in the anthology I Know, I Wish, I Will by Eastside Educational Trust. In 2021, she wrote, directed, and starred in Relationship Status, a short film examining modern relationships, social media, and communication.
In 2023, Shakira joined the Soho House Mentorship Programme with the Creative Mentorship Network, where, under the guidance of an industry professional, she began developing a pilot drama series centred on the untold stories of the Global Majority. She has since developed this project for both stage and screen, establishing herself as a bold, multi-platform storyteller committed to amplifying underrepresented voices.
